KOTA KINABALU Jan 5, 2012: The Penampang division of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is happy that Umno has finally come out and supported the proposal of setting up of the Royal Commission Inquiry (RCI) to investigate into the illegal immigrants and ‘Project IC’ issues in Sabah.
Divisional head Darrel Leiking however said to ensure that the voices of the state assemblyman is unanimous on the RCI, a special assembly sitting should be convened immediately to pass a unanimous motion for the parliament and federal government to set up the RCI.
“At the assembly, we will then be able to determine how many assemblymen will support the motion, who will oppose it or who will remain neutral.
“The motion will also bind future state governments just in case the RCI is not established before the 13th general election. In addition, it will clear the doubt that the support by Umno-BN for the RCI is only a political ploy considering the current expectation and demand of the people,” he said.
Leiking added since there is no more objection by BN-Umno Sabah, certainly the component parties can move a motion on the RCI at a special state assembly meeting thereby voicing out the demands by true and genuine Sabahans on the need for RCI.
“The special sitting by the assembly should be held immediately.
“Has anyone proposed on the special sitting so far? I believe a special sitting by the assembly would bind even the next state government if the RCI is not set up before the 13th general election,” he stressed
