Dompok fulfilling Ministerial oath when singling out NRD

Borneo Heritage Foundation United Borneo Front Committee (UBF) Chairman, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, said Federal Ministers have the right to question departments responsible for issuing documents to foreigners through the backdoor.

This right comes from the oath taken by Ministers before the King pursuant to Article 43(6) of the Federal Constitution which states that the Ministers shall "preserve, protect and defend [Malaysia's] Constitution", he said in Kg Pinahawon, Inanam, Friday.

"Part III of the Federal Constitution relates to the acquisition of citizenship in this country. If a Federal Minister or member of the Cabinet has any reason to believe that a government department or person has broken the provisions of Part III of the Federal Constitution so as to threaten the territorial integrity of this country, that Minister is under oath as part of his/her allegiance to King and country to highlight those issues and defend the integrity of our Federal Constitution.

"A Federal Minister who raises this issue in good faith for the King and Prime Minister to consider is well aware of his/her oaths and collective responsibility to King, parliament and the nation.

"Our responsibility as elected representatives is to defend King, citizens and country from the threat of aliens who acquire documents against any of the stipulated provisions of Part III of the Federal Constitution," he said, adding Tan Sri Bernard Dompok is certainly not the person who should resign from politics.

Dompok, who is Federal Plantations and Commodities Minister, was recently criticised by former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Mohd Salleh for blaming the National Registration Department as the source of the integrity problems that the Elections Commission is facing over phantom voters, among others.

Harris had said that Dompok, being a Federal Cabinet Minister, should subscribe to the principle of collective responsibility.

Addressing a crowd of over 100 people, Dr Jeffrey added that all Sabahan leaders should support each other where common issues are challenged before the Federal powers.

"Why are we not supporting each other in addressing common problems?" he asked.

There are numerous books and articles on the data involving allegations of conferment of citizenships on illegal immigrants, he said, adding this is a very critical moment for Sabahans because our poverty is evidence of our disenfranchisement.

"If Sabah today has full control of the oil rights instead of the paltry five per cent and full administration of a financial off-shore centre like Labuan, would we be in our present predicament?

"We have a right to demand for the return of our oil percentages.

We have a right to demand that Labuan comes back to Sabah.

Everything was taken away from Sabah without the consent of the people of Sabah and a referendum was not even carried outÉwe lost everything," he said.

"The only way we can regain control is for every Sabahan and Sarawakian politician to amalgamate under one Borneo party and demand for at least 90 seats in parliament to make 35 per cent of the veto."

The Borneo Heritage Foundation's United Borneo Front (UBF) committee has called for the restoration of public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 13th General Elections.

Its Chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan also stressed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) will further erode public confidence in the system by taking a hard-handed tactic against the planned rally by the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) on July 9.

"We have to be logical. The UBF will not participate in rallies or marches if it merely pre-empts wrongdoing in the electoral process," he said, at UBF tea parties at Kg Tempasuk and Kg Malangkap, here.

"The method we subscribe to in UBF is to exhaust every avenue of diplomatic negotiation without risking lives and jeopardising this country's economic position with foreign investors.

"We will never subscribe to any group or organisation which will jeopardise the image of peace and economic strength that this country enjoys.

"Bersih's eight demands are well-known and a diplomatic dialogue with the Prime Minister should have been the first step towards achieving an amicable solution to their problems.

"At this stage, there is no logic in marching for these demands and causing an unnecessary rift in the negotiation process between Bersih and the Government which also internationally embarrasses the Election Commission.

"We must give the EC a chance to show that the new system they have in place actually works instead of marching on the assumption that it will go wrong," he said.

"By the same token, unless there is evidence that those arrested have actually violently threatened the security of the entire nation or broken any laws, we should not arrest people on the assumption that they plan to join a rally without a permit.

"A crime contains two parts, the actual act of doing something illegally and the intention to do so. The rally has not happened either and we run the risk of losing foreign investors if we give the international community an impression that this country can't sit down and discuss the eight demands diplomatically," he said.

"Right now, we're scaring citizens and foreigners unnecessarily and jeopardising Malaysia's economic position."

He said if there is evidence of violence and planned violence, then let the public know so that people who are arrested are fairly judged and that this no longer becomes an issue of human rights but an issue of crime, terrorism and national security.

"If there is no violence or planned violence against the public, the international community will question Malaysia's commitment to international human rights standards which we subscribe to in the United Nations and the Commonwealth.

"This matter is now very delicate and all eyes of the international community and the nation are now focused on our Prime Minister and the ruling government.

"This will be the litmus test ahead of the 13th General Elections," he said.

"We are aware of the many problems which plague our electoral system including the worries the public have over phantom voters, duplicated identities and foreigners with legalised documents.

"What we need from the Government is proof from international experts that the biometric system will clean up these highlighted problems and will not indirectly confirm and legalise the identities of any alleged dubious voter.

"We need to know how many and which countries have used this system effectively without problems of fraud. The issue of foreigners having legalised documents to allow them to enjoy the same rights as citizens in the electoral process is an age-old worry for the people of Sabah.

"When they queue up for their turn to vote and notice foreigners in their queues with non-Malaysian accents, behaviours or obvious foreign cultural connections, it is very hard for Sabahans to believe that the identity documents held by such people are genuinely Malaysian," he said.

Kitingan said that in this respect, in addition to the biometric system, the UBF would suggest that all voters show their identity cards and their original birth certificates when casting their votes.

"The computerised system should also show warning signs if an address contains more than the usual number of residents in accordance with the last census."

He also stated that the UBF has made a call in the past to allow all Malaysians residing overseas to be allowed to vote at their nearest Malaysian embassies.

"If we can be sure that postal votes will not be abused by foreigners, then Malaysians should also be allowed to cast their votes through the post.

"Ultimately, we just want to be confident knowing that our laws and policies in Malaysia will be determined by Malaysian leaders loyal to their King and country and not by foreigners who may have breached our territorial integrity in the first place."

"It is no longer good enough for any politician to dismiss that there are no foreigners registered in the system because the public will not believe them.

"They must rebuild public confidence by showing us that the system they have in place is foolproof and that there is no room for abuse or doubt and this must be done before we call for the next General Election," he said.

He said people were now in fear that the Government would call for a state of emergency because this will reverse the clock and destroy investor confidence and deny the public the right to vote.

"Even tourists will stop coming here. We need to go for the general election and we need to do this as soon as possible without any more dirty tactics from anybody.

"The public is sick and tired of threats of marches, arrests, and the constant yo-yoing and second-guessing of when the election will be.

We must stop all this nonsense.

"We're not dealing with a nation of toddlers here; we're dealing with business people and civil servants and employees who just want to get on with it and live a decent life.

"So make a decision and announce the date for the 13th General Elections this year because by and large, everyone is now ready for it," said Jeffrey.

MENTERI Penerangan Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim akan memberi keterangan dalam kes saman beliau terhadap penulis blog berhubung satu artikel yang didakwa memfitnah beliau yang disiarkan dalam laman blognya.

Hakim Mahkamah Tinggi Datin Zabariah Mohd Yusof menetapkan tiga hari bermula 4 Julai depan untuk mendengar kes itu. Beliau menetapkan tarikh itu selepas mengadakan pertemuan dengan peguam Azad Bashir yang mewakili Rais dan Gan Chee Wei yang mewakili penulis blog, Amizudin Ahmad.

Bercakap kepada pemberita, Azad berkata saksi utama daripada pihak plaintif adalah Rais sendiri.

Beliau juga berkata mahkamah memerintahkan kedua-dua pihak untuk menyerahkan kepada mahkamah dokumen berkaitan berhubung kes itu sebelum 23 Mei dan menetapkan 25 Mei untuk sebutan kedua-dua pihak meneliti dokumen berkenaan sebelum perbicaraan bermula.

Pada 31 Jan, Rais memfailkan saman fitnah terhadap Amizudin, yang juga anggota jawatankuasa sayap pemuda Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) berhubung artikel yang disiarkan dalam blog Amizudin, bersama gambar Rais, pada atau sekitar 28 Dis tahun lepas.

Beliau antara lain menuntut ganti rugi am, ganti rugi khas, ganti rugi teruk selain perintah terhadap defendan supaya mengeluarkan dari blognya artikel itu dan melarangnya dari terus menyiarkannya.

Pada 2 Feb lepas, Rais memperoleh injunksi daripada Mahkamah Tinggi yang memerintahkan Amizudin Ahmat mengeluarkan (membuang) artikel yang memfitnah beliau daripada blognya, sharpshooterblogger.blogspot.com.

Amizudin pada 21 Mac lalu bersetuju berhenti daripada menyiarkan artikel itu yang didakwa memfitnah menteri itu.

Dalam kenyataan tuntutannya, Rais, 69, berkata maksud artikel dalam bahasa Melayu itu berniat jahat dan memfitnah beliau.

Menteri itu berkata tulisan itu membawa makna beliau bersalah melakukan jenayah serius merogol dan mampu membunuh pembantu rumah beliau dari Indonesia.

Rais juga berkata tulisan fitnah itu membawa maksud beliau seorang manusia dan/atau pemimpin yang tidak bermoral.

Menteri itu berkata bahawa ekoran daripada penerbitan artikel itu, reputasi beliau sebagai seorang individu dan/atau sebagai seorang profesional di peringkat nasional dan antarabangsa telah tercemar teruk, dan membuat beliau malu dan tertekan.

Rais yang juga Anggota Parlimen Jelebu di Negeri Sembilan telah menafikan tuduhan itu selepas seorang penulis blog menamakan beliau.

Ekoran itu, seorang wanita yang pernah bekerja dengan beliau selama lapan tahun, dilaporkan oleh sebuah portal berita Indonesia, telah menafikan yang beliau pernah dilayan buruk atau dirogol oleh majikannya.

Amizudin dalam pernyataan pembelaannya mempertahankan tindakannya dengan berkata artikel itu menyatakan apa yang benar berlaku. (BERNAMA)

Sunshade And Advertisement In Kota Kinabalu

Sunshades and advertisements are two very different things so what is so confusing and misleading?

Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir posed the question in response to remarks by Sabah DAP Vice Chairman Edward Ewol Mujie that Madingkir's press statement on this issue was misleading and had led to confusion.

"I have already clarified to the Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai and President of the KK Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Datuk Sari Nuar, that City Hall was referring to the advertisement banner," Madingkir said.

"We are not talking about the sunshades and we are not going to interfere with the use of sunshades which have been there since before," he said.

I am referring to the advertising banner. Some even with measurements of up to two by eight feet. Advertising banners have commercial value," Madingkir added.

"A sunshade which has two sides with one side having an advertisement, is not an issue for us either. There are two things here, one is the sunshade and one is the advertisement," he said. What I am referring to is the advertisement and I am consistent with what I said before, this issue has nothing to do with sunshades."

The Mayor had earlier explained that City Hall had never issued notices for shopowners to pay fees for sunshades at their premises but only for advertisement banners in front of their shops.

Madingkir also urged those with sunshades to make sure they are in good condition.

"Some sunshades are already torn and broken, so please make an effort to keep them well maintained. So when tourists come, it will give a good impression. It's good for the beauty of our city too," he said.

On another matter that all City Hall traffic penalties will be standardised from RM40 to RM300, he said it was made by the Majlis Negara Kerajaan Tempatan.

"I used to attend that meeting when I was in the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. Normally whatever decision made there will be extended to other states like Sabah or Sarawak," Madingkir said.

"It's up to the State Government whether to follow or otherwise.

We have yet to receive any decision. Normally they will extend the result to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. It is not automatic.

The State Government has to make a decision whether to adopt or otherwise," he added. But at the moment there is still no decision.

There are three meetings held annually. So we have to wait for that," he said.

The Mayor was speaking during a tour of the newly-opened Ranhill Worley office premises after officiating at its opening, Thursday.

The company has been actively involved in the Malaysian energy sector, tracing its roots back to 1978 in Miri. This is the seventh Ranhill Worley office in Malaysia and the first in Sabah.

The office currently has 10 staff providing services to Petronas Carigali in terms of engineering and safety support both offshore and onshore.

Also present were Chief Executive Officer of Ranhill, Roni Adrian and managers of Petronas Carigali.

Playing Dangerous Mind Game

 LDP is acting irresponsibly by playing a dangerous mind game with the Chinese community

Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is acting irresponsibly by playing a dangerous mind game with the Chinese community in toying with the race card, said State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

Masidi, who is also Sabah Umno Assistant Secretary, said LDP Deputy President Datuk Chin Su Phin was attempting to create dissent not only between the Chinese and Umno but other communities and Umno.

"You are obviously playing the race card when you say aside from the Chinese, other communities also do not agree with the state leadership who we all know is also the leader of Umno in Sabah. This is unbecoming and is not the culture of BN".

Masidi said it was arrogant and presumptions to say that the Chinese and even other communities do not support the State leadership.

"Chin may tip toe on the identity of the person he is attacking but we know who he is referring to. And I have to emphasise 'he' because it is personal issue for him and certain individuals with personal agenda," he said.

He said due to the personal nature of this vendetta against the State leadership, the Chinese community should not be duped into believing that there is no majority support for the leadership. Masidi said Chin should not insult the intelligence of the Chinese in Sabah by trying to manipulate the community into thinking that a majority of them do not support the State leadership.

Masidi said Chin was also out of line when he said there were other capable people in Umno. "Umno does not meddle in LDP affairs and tell them who is or who is not capable of helming the party's leadership.

Likewise, LDP should leave Umno affairs to Umno, "I am sure the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak knows who should helm the leadership in Sabah. Chin's criticism of the Umno leadership in the State is tantamount to questioning the wisdom of the Prime Minister," he said.

Masidi said there were times when Umno wanted to hit back at LDP, especially the Chin brothers for their relentless attacks against the Chief Minister, but the Chief Minister himself had urged restraint in the interests of BN. "But this too much."

"I will not stand idly and let the Chin brothers and whoever's personal agenda they are serving destroy the harmony and consensus that we have worked so hard to build in the BN family and Sabah." Masidi said the State leadership strived to take care of the needs and accommodate all communities in Sabah.

"We live in an ethnically diverse society and in the spirit of Barisan Nasional. Whatever decision made must be based on consensus and for the greater good of society, not just for a few individuals," he said.He said the BN component parties should be strengthening their cooperation consolidating their efforts to gear up for the next election.

"We should not be throwing punches with the single purpose of undermining the leadership. I am a BN member. I am also an Umno member. I will defend the BN spirit of unity and cooperation. I will also defend the code of respecting and supporting my leader," he said. Masidi said BN component parties should move forward together, go down the ground and work on developing Sabah and improving the welfare of the people.

Kota Kinabalu: The Barisan Nasional (BN) should accept the decision by the people in Sarawak in the recent State election, especially in urban areas.

Gerakan Vice-President Datuk Raymond Tan said it was more important to find out why the Chinese in urban areas decided to vote for the opposition.

DAP won 12 out of 15 seats that it fielded candidates in its best electoral performance in Sarawak.

"They were very, very well prepared, what to say and what picture to put up. They planned everything. They did very well, were organised and very detailed," he said after representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman at the launching of the Transformational Leadership programme at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Tuesday.

However, the peninsula-based Gerakan believes the "winds of change" as demonstrated by the Chinese community there would not blow over to Sabah. "The party (Gerakan) had learnt well about what had transpired in Sarawak and, thus, will prepare for the general election that is expected to be held soon.

"When the time comes for Sabah, we will know what to do," Tan said.During his trips to Sarawak, Tan said he found that the people there understood the scenario not just in Sarawak but also issues and challenges in the country, especially in urban areas.

The people are more open-minded to issues both in the state and also nationwide. Hence, Sabah must learn about what transpired in its neighbouring State, he said.

"This is something that we and I need to be aware of and learn from in order for us to prepare ourselves in the direction that we are going," he said.

Tan, who is also State Industrial Development Minister-cum-Tanjong Papat Assemblyman, said doing the routine during campaigning such as putting up posters, giving ceramah (public rally) and shaking hands with the constituents was not enough.

"They could not claim that are already popular after doing all these. Each campaign process is different and they learn new things from it, he said, adding the Sarawak general election was no exception."

People in the State, particularly in urban areas, he said, would draw comparisons to the scenario that took place in Sarawak.

"So, if the people in Sarawak were discontented or unhappy with certain things there and the Government was not doing anything about it, and we face a similar situation, then we would probably end up in the same way," he said.

Thus, the party needs to be focused, he said, adding if certain things were raised by the people and not enough was done to address these, Sabah would probably face a similar fate.

From his observation, he said many people especially in Sarawak's urban areas are unhappy, discontented and also frustrated over some issues.

Certain things that the Government should have settled, he said, failed to be resolved.

However, Tan said the situation was not only faced by certain communities but felt across the board. It applied to the Chinese, Ibans and also Malays, he said, adding that it was not only confined to the Chinese.

It is for this reason that the opposition influence had spread from urban areas to rural areas.

"So, the Prime Minister was right in querying whether we are really in touch with the people and that if you are in touch with the people and know how to address their needs, you will get their support," he said.

He said that as leaders they could not just assume that the people would be contented after providing them with the necessities.

"You could have done it but they would still be unhappy.

So, it is important that whatever you do, it touches them or that it gets to them," he said.

Statement meant to close chapter: PBRS

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) maintains that Parti Bersatu Sabah's (PBS) eleventh hour pullout before the 1990 General Election was both a "mistake" and a "misdeed".

Its Sec-Gen Datuk Dr Johnson Tee said in a statement: "After the pullout, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the then Prime Minister, described it as a "stab in the back" and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak called it biadap (recalcitrant) because the decision was made at almost the eleventh hour, seriously damaging Barisan Nasional's (BN) chances in the election.


"If this is not a misdeed then what is it?" he asked, Friday.

Johnson said PBRS regretted that Datuk Johnny Mositun, the Information Chief of PBS, conveniently misconstrued the party's statement, which was meant to be friendly and to close the chapter of further incriminating (PBS) for leaving BN, unlike other statement uttered by certain leader within the BN.

"According to the Macmillan Dictionary and Oxford advanced Learner's Dictionary, misdeed means an action that is wrong and wicked act respectively. We stand by our contention that the act was a mistake and it was also a misdeed," he said.

"Of course that was history and we confidently believe PBS has repented and it is time for Kadazandusun and Murut in PBS, Upko and PBRS to work out a formula for greater unity among the races.

"We urge Mositun not to prolong the issue, as people who live in glass houses should not throw stones," he said.

Mositun had said that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman had never used the word "misdeed" as pointed out by Johnson but "mistake" and that his advice was worded as such that it applied to everyone in general.

Mositun also said that Dr Johnson should know that there is a big difference between the meanings of "mistake" and "misdeeds".

PBS was one the best political organization in Sabah and I'm sure it will continue glance through out the time. The new generation of this political member will continue rising and upholding the vision and mission of this political party. What done in the past let it be past, the important thing is the future and every single party member must do their job with full responsibility. I'm one of thousands member in this party and will carry on it objective and goals until we achieve it. Refer to Daily Express article, title " PBRS hails forgiving PBS leaders over misdeeds" I like to comments it with the perspective view as a citizen loyal to Government. As we know that, PBS have nothing wrong doing in the past... the vision and mission is more to the people and many people is still support this party till now. 

Why PBS need to be forgiven? There is nothing wrong with the decision made by this party in the past. The ex member of PBS made the decision and turn the party upside down and they the one who make this party crumble and they should bear the responsibility why PBS being label as misdeeds. What shall we do now is stop dwelling from the past and continue our mission to make Sabah glorious once more among the country in Malaysia. Stop quarrellings between each other and stop making bad story!. Just support your party as long as it is under the component of BN and let it be done according to what had been plan. Thanks for supporting the government and our main responsibility now is to support, correct and give idea to the respective so that we can enhance our society in Sabah and Malaysia. PBRS hails forgiving PBS leaders over misdeeds

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) on Wednesday welcomed Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman's generosity to forgive and to forget the misdeeds committed by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and its leaders in the past.

Its Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Johnson Tee, said the CM's assertion that the true spirit of the Barisan National (BN) coalition is centred on a united Sabah and a united BN is very timely in facing a dynamic future in an increasingly borderless and competitive world.

"While PBRS acknowledges that we should forget about the unpleasant things that have happened in the past and let bygones be bygones, the component parties must be reminded that BN is not a five-star hotel where you can check in and check out anytime.

"We must not repeat our wrong doing," he said in a statement.

The PBRS, he said, is convinced that former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had contributed greatly towards making Malaysia a respectable and prosperous nation.

"This is a fact that no one can deny," he said.

Dr Mahathir's memoirs in "A Doctor in the House", he said, contemplated on his personal opinion and views of what had transpired and what he considered correct at that material time.

"If readers do not share Dr Mahathir's thinking, they could opt to disagree."

However, Dr Tee said that the former PM's views should be respected.

On the other hand, he said the BN must rise to the occasion to tackle issues such as poverty eradication, illegal immigrants and jobs creation, among others, instead of arguing over the unproductive past mistakes.

He said the PBRS wants the State BN to regularly conduct meetings so as to enable the coalition partners settle any outstanding issues affecting them.

"If a full meeting cannot be called at least the Secretary General of the component parties should meet at regular intervals to avoid unnecessary negative publicity in the media," he said.

Kota Kinabalu: The Consumer Front of Sabah (Cfos) was approved by the Registrar of Societies on March 11 this year, after two years of waiting, revealed its President Nordin Thani, a satellite TV engineer.

Nordin, a consumer activist even while a student in the United Kingdom and upon returning to Sabah in 2006, said the Cfos as a consumer mouthpiece will without fear or favour speak out and defend the rights of consumers be it pertaining to goods or services.

"We will work with both government and private agencies to constantly promote consumerism among Sabahans and make it a culture especially which the next generation of consumers and goods and service providers will treat seriously."

According to him, Cfos currently has 11 registered branches throughout the state with five more in the process of being registered.

"Currently we have 105 members and we are targeting a membership of 500 by year end; We are open to Malaysians residing in Sabah aged 18 and above."

He said Cfos also received and was considering a request to expand to Labuan although there is already a consumer association there.

Cfos has planned a road show to introduce itself to the general public.

The Sabah public lost a strong consumer voice following the deregistration of the Consumer Association of Sabah and Labuan (Cash) in 2009.

Review all laws affecting NCR: Jeffrey

Kinabalu: Borneo Foundation Heritage (BFH) Chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said there is need for the Government to review all legislation pertaining to the native customary rights (NCR).

"We need clearer legislation on NCR to avoid unnecessary confusion and court actions. The Government should look into the compliance mechanism for the protection of Native Customary Rights.

"I hope the Government think-tank will find a solution for this issue as I am also aware that expanding families can cause land disputes and further expansion of lands if allocation was specifically given to individuals.

"We need more allocation, perhaps, for community titles for natives.

It is not an easy issue but one we must resolve before the next general election.

"Looking at the Federal Constitution, our native rights are supposed to be protected by the monarchy, so this is a very important issue that must not be dismissed," he said.

Reinforcing the idea that any citizen can question the Government on the issue of fulfilling the terms of Article 8 of the Malaysia Agreement 1963, Dr Jeffrey applauded the decisions of parties such as Snap, Upko and SAPP who had publicly stated they subscribe to the Borneo Agenda promoted by UBF even though their political alliance remain either BN, PR or independent.

"With 75 per cent of Parliament represented by West Malaysians, we do not expect small component parties to leave the 'big brother' alliances so easily.

"Ultimately we are not so much persuading the political parties but the leaders in those parties to take on the responsibility to make a stand for what is right and that is the complete fulfilment of Article 8 of the Malaysia Agreement so that the safeguards required for the protection and empowerment of the people of Sabah and Sarawak will be respected, reinstated and reinforced.

"Parties can't make the difference, only the leaders can.

Leaders from Borneo must have the tenacity to deal with leaders who would belittle the Borneo Agenda for want of knowledge.

"In all likelihood, those who would oppose the Borneo Agenda would oppose without much knowledge of the historical records that brought this country into existence in 1963.

"If they are aware, it is likely they sit on a minority bench and unable to propose any change. We need leaders from Borneo from all political fronts to make a stand on these issues and invite mutual understanding and acceptance in parliament," he said.

Dr Jeffrey said if the decision to follow the Borneo Agenda would result in economically benefiting all the States of Malaysia, it will probably be more palatable to the 75 per cent.

Otherwise, he said Sabah and Sarawak would only ever represent exploitation in their eyes and the focus of economic development would prioritise only West Malaysian interests as opposed to East Malaysia.

"It's time we reviewed this focus and negotiate for a review of the situation. Sabah and Sarawak are internationally regarded as the nation's source of wealth, so the issue of poverty is not about our resources and industries but about the filtering of benefits back to the people from the taxes and benefits received by the government from the people."

He said natives must not be left behind and the government must resolve to follow the recommendation of our forefathers that native customary rights to occupy state lands are to be prioritised.

"A corporate body can represent a number of shareholders and directors who are not even remotely native. They would apply for their own economic gain.

"The government should deliberate their decisions based on the premise that on the 16th September 1963, they had assumed a de facto role of becoming the guardian of the native people of Sabah and Sarawak," said Dr Jeffrey.

He also explained the re-structuring exercise of the UBF to allow for the development of a registered committee of young leaders who wish to promote the Borneo Agenda to all political parties.

"The UBF doesn't discriminate members on the basis of political affiliation. We respect the decisions of our members and leaders to pursue the agenda in every field of endeavour, whether it's NGO, political parties, affiliated committees or just through social tea parties.

"If the safeguards of 1963 are in people's minds, the objectives behind political manifestos will cease to ignore the importance of Sabah and Sarawak to national development," he said.

ECONOMIC CHALLENGES

Malaysia has already been developed as a commercial hub for the regional economy. If viewed from the aspect of history, there's no doubt that Malaysia has a strategic position and rich natural resources. But after the economic crisis in 1997-1998, the country faced economic problems that require drastic financial management and financial strategic planning.

Racial Income Gap

Indeed, in this challenge, Malaysia does not run in average inequality in income distribution, especially for those revenues. The gap is due to the May 13 incident is still fresh remember in our mind and become a catalyst for economic change in Malaysia.

But after more than a decade, Malaysia continues to introduce initiatives and program of economic development to bridge up this gap. In one article quotes web release dated December 3, 2010 Star, reports the New Economic Model (NEM) The End of National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) released on Friday, emphasizing that the action pro-poor approach, that can handle the growth in overall income inequality and social inequality while the poor people out of poverty. Among the measures contained in the New Economic Model is:

1. Offers loans through the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for housing needs of the middle 40 per cent category that can be paid back through deductions from monthly contributions by employees, which is independent of the cash flow.

2. Allows the lowest 40 per cent for out of the crisis of poverty through education.

3. Offer incentives to teachers to improve their performance and willingness to teach in rural areas as well as in some rural areas and provide a safety net for parents to ensure their children finish school completely.

Not only through the 10th Malaysia Plan, several measures have been introduced to bridge the income gap between races. Among one of the MP-10 is,

1. Growing at a rate of 2.4 percent a year to create 1.4 million jobs, particularly in the services sector.

2. Labor market more flexible.

3. Work Regulations under the Employment Act 1955 will be introduced to attract workers from among the housewives, pensioners and disabled people.

4. RM50 million to continue the matching grants for training and skills upgrading for employees of small and medium enterprises.

Malaysia is so focuses of the unity of all races. Such issues are taken in total, and committed so that no one is marginalized people.

Identification of race based economic activities

If we look at the policies or economic program introduced by the government of Malaysia, it should be taken seriously and should be emulated. These measures were taken and introduced not only to give equal opportunities to all people, but to eradicate poverty in our country that can not be taken lightly. In fact the Government has allocated more capital to generate human capital development and implementation of programs based on economic development to improve living standards and economic stability.

The Government of Malaysia is currently developing a new economic model for the country, among others, based upon the increase in labor productivity, which aims to help them increase revenues. Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the government would provide scope of an economic council which will be established, consisting of economic experts, including from abroad, to propose a new economic model for the nation. The introduction of economic models that can also displace the position of a country whose economy is in the high middle income to high income. The increase in labor productivity not only through the contribution of hours worked but also through innovation and creativity.

10 Ninth Malaysia Plan to help improve the income of many races, especially in this country. Arguably the number one national consciousness leader acknowledges and is aware that without the people in the country pengerak be back as a third country. As such an approach was made to ease the burden of 1Malaysia based on the principle of social justice. This principle is defending the interests of all communities and ensure that no group be excluded from the mainstream of development. In this context, social justice should take into account the achievement of all ta hap communities. Thus, justice involves a distribution approach that provides additional assistance to the poor to benefit from economic development. The ultimate aim is to be achieved is to create opportunities and equal basis for all citizens to participate and compete in economic development activities. Distribution policy would focus on ensuring equal opportunities enjoyed by all. This concept is continued as the statements of the 9th Malaysia Plan, the percentage of poverty declined significantly from 49.3% in 1970 to only 3.8% in 2009 while the poverty incidence is almost eclipsed by only 0.7% in 2009. The introduction of skills training and entrepreneurship development are also introduced to low-income workers. It was conducted for the benefit of the poor to benefit from economic development to promote self  and the desire to achieve their aspirations.

In addition, new strategies and instruments are also designed to continuously Bumiputera participation. However, this approach should be based on market-friendly principles, merit, transparency and accountability requirements. This is caused because the focus is to improve the living standards of natives of Sabah and Sarawak and the native people community in Peninsular Malaysia. This approach is extended to these people because they want to enhance their competitiveness and participation in higher levels.

Development gap between regions

Regional development is vital for national development, the challenges of development such as this requires a systematic shift of the growth and development in line with the needs of the region. According to the report the Development Composite Index (DFI), which quoted from the report-8 th Malaysia Plan, covering the central region of Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur is the most developed regions in 2005. However, states such as Sabah and the eastern states, namely Kelantan, Pahang, and Terengganu are the least developed regions. Gross Domestic Product or GDP shows the central region and southern region are either due to rapid economic sectors in the regions to contribute their respective states. While the Eastern and Sabah had the lowest GDP.

To meet the requirements of the development gap and balance the territory, once again Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Razak Najip few have taken drastic measures ith introduced several proposals. These proposals include increasing investment in Iskandar Malaysia, Johor, with the introduction of Premium Outlet danMSC Cyberport City. This project will create economic spillover and equal opportunities in employment and business to the area

surroundings.

Northern Corridor Economic Region will be focused in the agricultural, manufacturing and services (tourism and logistics). Northern Corridor Economic Region as well as highlight and emphasize human capital, technology and infrastructure. East Coast Economic Region (ECER) will emphasize the focus on areas such as pelancaongan, oil, gas and petrochemical industries, agriculture and education. Through the MP-10, the ECER will be developed strategically all economic activities will focus on six nodes identified in the ECER Special Economic Zone (SEZ ECER) as a manufacturing hub and center of commercial danperkhidmatan pengedarandan acquisition, development MerentasiSempadan (Tumpat-Kota Bharu-Bachok- Tok Bali-Besut), Triangle of Kuala Terengganu, Dungun, Kenyir, Mersing - Rompin, Gua Musang, K. Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) is located in the central region of Sarawak. SCORE is a core source of energy, especially hydropower capacity of 28.000 MW. This allows Sarawak competitive pricing of energy and encourage investment in power generation and energy-intensive industries. Five nodes were identified with the growth objectives focus on development and investment kepadausaha

Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) includes all of the state with emphasis given to the Strategic Development Area (SDA), which has been identified in order to generate employment and income for local people and contribute to sustainable economic growth. Development in these areas would be beneficial spillover to the interior and surroundings.

With a design that is designated for each region, it will not be another occurrence of ketidakseimbang income. Full of care planning and ongoing research that could afford to build the region and help generate economic development.

SOCIAL CHALLENGES

Malaysia is no exception to the many challenges from its inception 50 years ago. Struggle for the struggle moved to raise the spirit of nationalism among the people to enjoy freedom. However, efforts still pursued by politicians in Malaysia to address the challenges abaransosial always challenging the integrity and soundness of our beloved country. Social challenges can not be taken for granted and underestimated like the saying goes' for a drop of indigo, sebelanga damaged. Among the social challenges of a separate education is a hot issue, the polarization and the social contract.

SEPARATE EDUCATION

Separate education has existed in the days of British rule in Malaya. These systems are designed by the British for the time being they do not harmonize with the educational curriculum of teacher education and this led to differences between the syllabus.

Not deny the existence of separate education brings positive and negative effects in society. Such education will lead to different measures for each school and involves the heavy labor. Many people, especially Malaysia considers separate education does not reflect the concept of a plural society. Successive generations are born by the system is beginning to show that the racial divide deepens. Malay School (primary school is less popular among the Chinese, for example) produce race-based think tank kemelayuan, Islam and kekampungannya thick, to produce a generation of Chinese school-based kecinaan, kiasu and kebandarannya is lowered, while the Tamil school (a bit left out) to produce a generation is in fact not so brilliant and neglected. According to him, through the education system so that all schools a variety of embedded under a national system denagn Malay as the medium of instruction except for Science and Mathematics are taught in English. "Of course, the students must learn their mother tongue is Mandarin for Chinese and Tamil for the Indians. Even under this system, the Malay students have the option to learn another language other than Mandarin and Tamil, "he said. Overall, 805 respondents obtained from the 1.558 or the equivalent of 52% agreed on the proposed school system proposed by the members of Parliament Jerlun. The challenge to create a parallel system should be studied in greater depth and should not be taken lightly. So to create a pluralistic society and the cooperation of unions in education is every community in Malaysia.

Polarization

'Polarization' has long existed in our country, Malaysia since the British colonial era in which all ethnic groups in Malaysia set to stay in their respective sectors, such as the living traditions of Malays, ethnic Chinese with mining and business people in india oil palm plantations and rubber. From there, the distribution pattern of the community have influenced the formation of a static and unchanging until Malaysia gained independence.

Polarization has created many problems in the relations between the races in Malaysia and this caused a race for dominance of the tendency of any sector, whether public or private sectors or areas in the country. One of the effects of social polarization occurs is the disparity in the education system. Country's education system is divided into two types: national and national-type schools (Chinese and Tamil type). The difference between the two schools was much less affected the academic quality of students. According to an article written freelance writer, John Lee, a national school of academic quality is very low and there is no comparison with the Chinese national type schools, where teachers are dedicated and encouraging students to excel in their studies. In primary school, teachers more often have no motivation to teach. In addition, national-type schools to teach the mother tongue of Chinese and Tamil, would the parents of Chinese and Tamil would rather send their children to national type schools. "

In the employment sector, rather obvious when viewed with our own eyes. Can we see a people master something like the business sector that is controlled by the Chinese, and it does not change from the days of British rule. Indian society is more likely to professional sectors such as lawyers, doctors and others. Meanwhile, the Malay community over to the administration or management.

SOCIAL CONTRACT

The social contract approved by the leaders of the results of the Malay, Chinese and India and political parties they represent, UMNO, MCA and MIC. However, this social contract should be treated as an agreement among the various ethnic groups and not among the leaders or the elite. Alliances that support the people as evidenced by the election victory of the Alliance in 1955. People need to understand the historical fact that the social contract reached through consensus and consultation processes. The issue arises because of the social contract in the current generation menggangapnya as irrelevant and would like to take a chance on him. Some of the non-Malays also consider the social contract as something that is associated with citizenship. It is a gift given to those who at the time of the immigrants or the descendants of generations imigran.Oleh why non-Malays are now regarded as something that has passed. They also knew that the privilege of indigenous people are part of the social contract. Since the non-Malays be given citizenship on certain conditions, indigenous people were given refuge by the clauses in the Constitution of the privilege. To those compromises are tied to a particular time, so they do not see the relevance now.

The social contract is a starting point for unity and harmony that we have achieved today. But why after several decades of our country continue to develop the country along with other developed countries, some people deliberately neglected the issue of the social contract that had been sealed for a long time ago. Is not the current modernization and development rapidly, every Malaysian must all continue forward together to ensure our country continues to be at maintaining unity and kerharmonian.

The concept of a Malaysia that was introduced by our present Prime Minister, Dato 'Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak is another perspective in an effort to attract the people of Malaysia in the refining and understand what the social contract is an important agreement that was signed a while ago. This concept is not something new, but a continuation of the previous prime minister. In fact, it should be noted that people are not like before, people now more advanced in terms of knowledge, education and ideas than with their fathers. However, the present generation should maintain unity and not expect anything from the government such as the Malay proverb says' a broken and a hammer. " Awareness, concern and commitment must be to assume the responsibility which had been built by our leaders take pains to unite us.

Therefore, as a new generation of problems of the social contract is no longer seen as remnants of history, but an approach to harmony and unity is required to bring Malaysia into a more challenging level. The world is changing and a new generation of speech and act more boldly challenge. Thus, the new generation should speak for the sake of unity, acting for the benefit.

Seized Bahasa Bibles Released After Stamped " For Christians Only "

What does it mean... the Holy Bible seized by the authority at Kuching, Sarawak and Port Klang, Selangor are released and being stamped with " For Christians Only " are there Non-Chrisitian reading it? Why? Is it because of the word " Allah "  are being used in the Holy Bible or just a Political issue use by the opposition to fight the ruling government? Hopefully people in Sabah will not make wrong assumption and drastic decision   regarding to this matter. Our local leader such as Datuk V.K Liew and Datuk Herbet already made their statement inside Sabah Daily Express Newspaper, yesterday 19 March 2011 regarding to this matter. What say you people of Sabah?

The using of word "Allah" in the Holy Bible is a hot issue for the living Christian in Sabah and Peninsular Of Malaysia. Do we want our country in jeopardize just because of this misunderstanding? Why must we quarrel because of the word of Allah was being used in the Holy Bible? Why not we share it because Muslim and Christian belief  shared the same Allah and coming from the same root of prophet. As I could remembered, the using word of Allah in the Holy Bible is more than 50 years in Sabah and based from my observation people in Sabah is using it without difficulity between Muslim and Christian in Sabah. People in Sabah is soft hearted and they will think first before act. The religion issue is worst if compare with political issue... we must be careful in dealing with it... We can make joke and story without hurting somebody but when come to "Religion Issue" be very careful in what you want to say... 

I really hate those opposition who like to use the hot issue to jeopardize the society. they should be stop...  The NGOs also need to think twice before their made statement such as ABIM(Sabah), if the government already made their decision why to argue anymore? Government is the main decision maker in all whatever issue happen inside Malaysia. We as the citizen of Malaysia need to follow it. Full Stop and follow it. If I given a chance to make a decision regarding to this matter.. we must settle it before too late because it will effect our future. Stop telling that many Muslim convert to Christian just because of this Malay version Bible and containing the word of Allah. People in Malaysia have their right to choose what ever their like as long as their decision is not harmful to other citizen and the government. The rumors regarding to this issue is used by the opposition party to tears us apart and let us be strong and fight them back. Wait for the right moment and wait  for our leader to decide what the best for us. Keep faith to our own religion whether Christian or Muslim and be patient and love each other so that we can  live in Sabah and Malaysia happier than before.
